Improving Multiday Solar Wind Speed Forecasts

We analyze the residual errors for Wang-Sheeley-Arge (WSA) solar wind speed forecasts as a function of photospheric magnetic field expansion factor (fp) and minimum separation angle (d) in photosphere between footpoints open lines nearest coronal hole boundary. find map are systematic when examined fp d. use these error maps to apply corrections model speeds. test this correction approach using 3-day lead time an entire year observations results. Our methods can readily be applied develop remaining WSA forecast times which range from 1 7 days 1-day increments. Since density, temperature, interplanetary strength all correlate well with speed, improved accuracy enables production multiday pressure, strength, geophysical indices. These additional parameters would expand usefulness Air Force Data Assimilative Photospheric Flux Transport-WSA space weather clients.
